Post-Holiday Roadwork Blitz Hits Pasco July 5–11: Where to Expect Delays

Pasco drivers should build extra minutes into nearly every route this week: the Florida Department of Transportation's District 7 has scheduled a heavy slate of lane closures, flagging operations and shoulder restrictions across the county from Sunday, July 5 through Saturday, July 11, 2026 — hitting US highways, state roads and the ramps to the Suncoast Parkway just as everyone heads back to work after the holiday.

The disruptions touch corridors that carry the bulk of Pasco's daily traffic, from the Land O' Lakes commute to the school-and-errands loop in the east county. Most of the daytime work runs Monday through Friday, but some restrictions are in place around the clock, and one popular trailhead is shut down for the long haul.

Bottom line: Expect sudden stops in flagging zones and slower going during business hours all week. If your route uses US 41, US 98, SR 39, CR 54, SR 54 or the Suncoast Parkway ramps, leave early and have a backup in mind.

Daytime lane closures (Monday–Friday)

Most of the weekday work falls during business hours, generally wrapping by early evening. According to the FDOT schedule, here's where crews will be squeezing traffic July 6 through July 10:

WhereHours
US 41 (Land O' Lakes Blvd.) at Lake Patience Rd. — new traffic signal8 a.m.–6 p.m.
US 98 between CR 54 and Townsend Rd.from 7 a.m.
SR 39 from Jerry Rd. to Pattie Rd.7 a.m.–4 p.m.
CR 54 from west of Flint Dr. to US 301 (Gall Blvd.)7 a.m.–5 p.m.
SR 54 at Henley Rd.8 a.m.–6 p.m.

The US 41 work is tied to a new traffic signal at Lake Patience Road, while the CR 54 and SR 39 closures are part of repaving projects that rely on flagging operations — meaning a crew member will be stopping and releasing traffic through the work zone, so plan for intermittent full stops.

Night work on SR 54

Drivers who use State Road 54 near Altamont Lane will see the opposite schedule: nightly lane closures from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., running Sunday night, July 5, through Thursday morning, July 9, for median improvements. Daytime traffic there should move normally, but late-night and early-morning commuters should expect a squeeze.

Around-the-clock restrictions

Several restrictions don't clear at night. On US 301, the southbound right lane from Kingsmere Road to Wire Road is closed continuously. Near the Suncoast Parkway, the westbound left lane of SR 52 is closed 24/7 from east to west of SR 589, and the eastbound SR 52 left-turn lane onto the northbound parkway is partially closed at its west end.

These are in place until further notice, so they're worth factoring into your regular routine rather than treating as a one-week event.

Suncoast Parkway ramps

The parkway interchanges at SR 54 and SR 52 will see partial ramp closures from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., July 6 through July 11. The affected spots include the right shoulder and merge lane on the SR 54 entrance ramp, the southbound SR 589 exit ramp to SR 54, and the southbound exit ramp to SR 52.

Officials say turns and full parkway access will remain available at these ramps throughout the work — you may just find yourself funneled through a narrower path. Truck drivers heading from eastbound SR 52 to the southbound parkway are still being sent along a signed detour (south on Moon Lake Road, then east on Ridge Road) because of a tight right-turn closure expected to last into early August.

Longer-term closures to know about

A few closures stretch well beyond this week. For weekend trail riders, the Suncoast Trail Trailhead at the end of Touchpoint Drive in Odessa is fully closed — that shutdown began in late June and is expected to stay in place until the project wraps in summer 2027.

Out in Trilby and Lacoochee, SR 575 remains closed to and from US 301 while crews build a roundabout, with access blocked around the clock through July 2026. Local traffic can still reach SR 575 east of the closure, and detours run via Cummer Road to Bower Road, or south from SR 50 on Burwell Road. In the same area, Townsend Road is closed to through traffic at Jim Jordan Road for the US 98 realignment and isn't expected to reopen until fall 2026.

Transportation officials are urging drivers to add extra travel time, watch for sudden stops in flagging zones and consider alternate routes throughout the week. All of the above dates and times are weather-dependent and subject to change.
