Overnight Lane Closures Continue on Chancey Road in Zephyrhills as Repaving Nears Finish

Single lanes of Chancey Road in Zephyrhills are closing overnight while Pasco County crews resurface the stretch from Gall Boulevard (U.S. 301) east to just past Paul S. Buchman Highway, and the work is not finished yet. Crews started Sunday, Aug. 9, and the county says the closures should last roughly two weeks, putting completion around the week of Aug. 20. Anyone using Chancey as their east-west shortcut between U.S. 301 and the Buchman Highway corridor should plan on delays after dark.

The hours are 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. That means Friday and Saturday nights are clear. It also means the road is back in normal shape before the morning commute and before school buses start their runs, with today, Aug. 13, being the first day of classes for Pasco County students.

Message boards are posted in both directions to warn drivers ahead of the work zone. Once the new asphalt is down, crews will lay fresh pavement markings, so expect striping work toward the end of the job.

Why this stretch

Chancey Road is one of the few continuous east-west routes on the north side of Zephyrhills, and it carries a steady mix of commuters, work trucks and local traffic feeding onto U.S. 301 and State Road 39. The segment being repaved runs east from the Gall Boulevard signal, past the Buchman Highway junction.

It has been a rough couple of years for the corridor. The intersection of Chancey Road and Morris Bridge Road, west of U.S. 301, was shut down in the summer of 2025 for repairs to failing pavement and drainage, pushing traffic onto Coats Road and U.S. 301 for months. County officials said in December that the intersection was nearly complete and would reopen by the end of the year. This resurfacing is a separate, smaller job on the eastern side of the corridor.

Longer term, Pasco's transportation planners have a much bigger version of Chancey Road on the books. The county's long-range plan lists widening it to four lanes divided from Morris Bridge Road east to U.S. 301, a stretch of roughly 3.7 miles. That project is not funded for construction in the near term, and nothing about it changes this month's work.

If you drive it at night

Give yourself a few extra minutes between about 7 p.m. and 6 a.m., and watch for crews and equipment moving inside the coned-off lane. Delivery drivers and shift workers heading toward Buchman Highway are the ones most likely to hit the closure. Local traffic still gets through. It just goes one lane at a time.

The county has not announced a firm final night, and paving schedules move with the weather, which in mid-August in east Pasco means afternoon storms can push a night's work back. If the timeline holds, drivers should have a fully repaved, freshly striped road by the end of next week.
