New Year’s Day shooting in Port Richey leaves one dead, deputies say

PORT RICHEY, Fla. — Pasco Sheriff’s Office deputies are investigating a deadly shooting that happened early Thursday morning in the U.S. 19 area of Port Richey.

Deputies were called out around 12:30 a.m. after reports of gunfire. Investigators say an altercation between two adults who knew each other escalated into an exchange of gunfire.

Authorities say the incident occurred in the U.S. 19 corridor near the Gulf View Square Mall area. Before deputies arrived, both people involved left the scene and went to separate hospitals for treatment.

One of the adults later died from their injuries, according to the sheriff’s office. The condition of the other person has not been released.

Investigators say the shooting appears to be isolated among known individuals, and there is no threat to the public at this time. No identities or suspect information have been released.
