HUDSON, Fla. – A significant expansion could be coming to HCA Florida Bayonet Point Hospital, as Pasco County officials review zoning and planning requests related to the project.

During a public hearing on Feb. 20, the Pasco County Planning Commission considered proposals for the development, which would include 600,000 square feet of hospital space, 200,000 square feet of medical offices, and 50,000 square feet of retail facilities. The proposed expansion would span 62.98 acres on both sides of Fivay Road, near the intersection of Hudson Avenue.

HCA Florida Bayonet Point, located at 14000 Fivay Road, has been serving the community since 1981 and currently operates with 392 licensed beds. HCA Healthcare, the nation’s largest health system with approximately 180 hospitals—including more than 40 in Florida—owns and operates the facility.

If approved, the expansion is expected to bring increased employment to the West Market Area. To move forward, the project requires amendments to the county’s comprehensive plan, changing the zoning from Retail/Office/Residential and Residential-6DU/GA to a Planned Development designation.

The Pasco County Board of County Commissioners is scheduled to hold an adoption hearing on March 25 in New Port Richey to determine whether to approve the comprehensive plan amendment. If approved, the plan will be transmitted to the Florida Department of State for confirmation. HCA is also requesting a rezoning of the property to a Master Planned Unit Development, which will be considered at the same meeting.

The Pasco County Planning Commission has recommended approval of both requests as part of its consent agenda, with no public opposition voiced during the hearing.
